How Much Inventory should You Take to Shows?

September 9, 2015 by Katie Smith 1 Comment

As a craft fair vendor, one of the most stressful decisions you have to make is how much inventory to bring. You don’t want to bring too much and end up with a surplus of unsold products, but you also don’t want to bring too little and miss out on potential sales. It can be a tricky balance, but fortunately, Kimberlie Kohler has some great tips to help you determine just how much inventory to take to a craft show.

Kimberlie acknowledges that this is a question she gets asked frequently and stresses the importance of not running out of a hot seller of the day. She advises that if you have sold in other venues, think about what sells well there and bring those items to the craft show. However, if this is your first show, you may have to guess a little more.

It’s important to also consider the size of the event and the number of days it runs. If it’s a small event running for only one day, you may not need to bring as much inventory as you would for a larger event running multiple days. Additionally, if the event has a specific theme or season, you’ll want to tailor your inventory accordingly. For example, if it’s a holiday-themed event, you’ll want to bring holiday-specific products.

Kimberlie also recommends doing some research beforehand. Look at the vendor list and see what other vendors are selling. This will give you an idea of what types of products are popular at the event and can help you determine what to bring.

Another helpful tip is to keep track of what sells and what doesn’t. This will help you determine what to bring to future events and can also help you adjust your pricing or marketing strategies.

In summary, when determining how much inventory to take to a craft fair, consider the size and duration of the event, the theme or season, and do some research beforehand. Keep track of what sells and what doesn’t for future events. By following these tips, you’ll be better prepared and more likely to have a successful and profitable craft show.
