DIY Book Nook Kits

April 19, by Shellie Wilson. Leave a Comment

Book nooks are little miniatures that sit amongst your books, a window into a diorama world.  We all know hidden inside every book is a story and adventure, well these book nooks bring stories to life.

Featured above is the Time Travel Robotime DIY house perfect for sitting between the Harry Potter Book series or check out the Magical Book Nook kit (image below) which is also suitable.

If you love jigsaw puzzles and crafting then you are going to love these Book Nook Minature kits by Robotime. These kits take around 4-6 hours to complete and are perfect for gifting to teens or adults.

(recommended age on these kits is 14+)

These kits look amazing on a full bookshelf and with the lights inside they can be used as a simple night light. A lighted path to a mysterious world of books.

So why are jigsaws or puzzles important for the brain? Did you know that studies have shown that doing puzzles can improve cognition and visual-spatial reasoning?

Putting the pieces of a puzzle together requires concentration and thus improves short-term memory and problem-solving skills. Whilst we need these are we grow and develop we also need to enhance these skills as we become older. One thing that is not mentioned is patience, I personally believe puzzles teach us patience, something we tend to lack in the modern world, where we are used to instant gratification with social media and internet usage.  Puzzles are a great way to shut down the brain from technology and to re-set your mind. Have you ever noticed when you do a puzzle you might start to sing or hum along, this is your mind drifting, calming itself, and finding pleasure in simple things.

Puzzles are also a great way to connect with your family. Starting a puzzle and keeping it on a table in your living room or kitchen is an invitation for the whole family to participate.  I love leaving our puzzles in the kitchen where the teenagers come to sit and chat or wait for the dinner, its a great opportunity for them to do a little bit and in my experience teenagers talk a whole lot more when they don’t make eye contact, isn’t that why the talk more freely in the car?

We use a large flat tray (White is best for visibility) for our puzzles so that they can be moved around easily from room to room.  You may want to consider a portable lamp also.
