Handmade Business – How To Boost Christmas Sales on Your Blog, Website or Etsy Store

October 12, by Shellie Wilson. Leave a Comment

Owning an eCommerce website means wanting to attract Christmas holiday shoppers. Get a site ready for the holiday season with these great ideas.

The holidays are always an opportune time of the year to make some profit from last-minute Christmas shoppers, who sometimes wait as late as Christmas Eve to buy some belated Christmas gifts for loved ones. As the owner of an eCommerce website, it is important to position a website ready to receive the stream of incoming traffic full of ready-to-spend last minute online shoppers. Below are some tips on planning ahead in order to boost online Christmas sales and make a decent profit during the festive season.

Making a Website Open for Christmas Shopper Business

By early December, one must ensure that a website is completely up to date with advertisements offering holiday items for sale, and not the fall sales items. Just like a shop display window in the brick-and-mortar world, one should have his best foot forward by displaying the best selling items on the website homepage.

Bundle up the best selling items into a gift set, which customers may then add into the shopping cart at the click of a mouse. Ensure that these are packed together in an attractive gift basket, ready for purchase. Any holiday specials for offer must also be clearly visible.

Most importantly, potential customers must be aware that the website is ready for them to make their holiday purchases. Have all the delivery schedule information and shipping times visibly displayed on the website to ease any fears potential clients may have about accessing the gift purchased in time for Christmas day.

Gift certificates, cards, and vouchers are another essential must-have for any website wishing to attract the last-minute buyers. Include additional perks such as offers of free gift-wrapping or free shipping for purchases exceeding a certain amount. Also make sure workers are ready to accommodate Christmas shoppers with friendly and quick customer service responses, and that items go out when promised. This could actually help in securing repeat customers throughout the entire year.

Decorate the Website for Christmas Shoppers

Get into the Christmas spirit by giving the website a deserved holiday makeover. This may be done through the addition of:

A Christmas banner atop the homepage
A holiday icon set
A revamping of the website logo to fit in with the overall Christmas theme

However, it is important to keep the holiday accents to a bare minimum to avoid having the site look too busy or cheesy. Of the three options above, selecting only one would be sufficient for a website, in order to get into the Christmas mood.

Promote the Website for the Busy Holiday Season

Ensure that the website has a newsletter facility such that customers may sign up to receive newsletters via email. These newsletters are advantageous in acting as a platform for informing potential customers of what products are on offer on the website, as well as any promotional offers available during the Christmas holiday season. Such newsletters should be sent out over the Christmas holiday season to serve as a reminder to clients that the website is open for business.

Ensure that the website has been properly search engine optimized (SEO) in time for the festive season. It could take a major search engine such as Google at least a month to rank and index a website. As such, advance preparation in terms of SEO is required to ensure the website is ranked on time and has a good ranking by the time the shoppers begin flocking online for Christmas shopping.

Use attention-grabbing words and phrases on the website to enable the shoppers to easily find what is needed or wanted. These may include phrases such as “Great Gift Ideas” listed on the homepage or a call to action such as “Something Special Just for Her.” Again, do not put so many catchy phrases on the site that it actually detracts buyers, but do let them know you have great products.

These are just a few of the ways in which one may boost holiday sales during Christmas and attract the much-desired traffic from those last-minute holiday shoppers. Make sure the site has promotions and sales, looks to be in the Christmas spirit, and offers excellent customer service. Only then will the website gain loyal customers.
