Book Review- Wax On Crafts

January 9, 2016 by Katie Smith Leave a Comment

wax on crafts

Today I have a book review to share with you all, and I think this is a really fun and interesting book. It’s called “Wax on Crafts, Holiday Projects” by Miriam Joy. Miriam Joy is a professional international artist, author, teacher, designer and inventor, published photographer, filmmaker, and motivational speaker as well as being great at crayon art!

Let’s start with an excerpt of the book from the publisher:

Create bright and cheerful designs for the holidays, using a box of crayons and a few simple tools! With step-by-step instructions and over 400 images, you can turn inexpensive and everyday items into family treasures. Start with the basics using simple shapes, free-hand designs, leaves, and flowers. Decorate tile magnets, ornaments, and other mediums. Find out how to use wax with paper, wood, glass, metals, boxes, eggs, and felt. Discover twice-melted wax and add color to your designs.

Learn the methods to use color washes, base coating, and floating color to create a stunning, eye-catching project. From colorful Christmas ornaments, jewelry, and snowflakes to Easter eggs, necklaces, and pumpkins, Miriam Joy will show you how to add a little color to a basket sitting in the corner, make a wonderful Christmas heirloom out of an antique sled, and turn that old saw into a harvest piece to set above the fireplace.

I must say- I love crayon projects, so I was definitely interested to read this book when I heard about it. Crayon projects that were more than just coloring? Yes, please!

Seeing the title “Holiday Crafts” immediately made me think of Christmas, but there is so many more holidays included in this book! Valentines, Easter, Halloween and more, so you can be inspired all year long.

Miriam Joy has a line of tools she sells to help with wax art, and demonstrates how to use them in this book. I like how She shows you how to paint certain designs, such as sunflowers and roses, leafs, etc.

The only thing I wish is that Miriam offered home alternatives to buying her tools. I get that she is promoting them and that’s great (go indie artists and business owners!!) but I would love to know how to melt the crayons and use household tools until I purchase her tool.

Overall, if you have Wax Melting tools (such as those designed by Miriam Joy), this book will show you so many different techniques as well as craft project tutorials!

You can purchase a copy of the book Wax On Crafts Holiday Projects by Miriam Joy here on Shiffer Publishing.

*I received a free book in exchange for this review, however opinions are my own.
