Craft Trends to look for in 2016

November 27, 2015 by Katie Smith 2 Comments

craft trends 2016

This time last year I did a post titled “Craft Trends to look for in 2015“.  I predicted things like calligraphy/lettering (huge right now!) as well woodland creatures. I think it is fun to see how different trends come and go in the crafting world.

I wanted to do a follow up post with Craft Trends you may see in 2016.

  1. Colored Metallics. I’m not sure about everyone else, but I’m a bit over gold. However I love colored metallics and I think they might start showing up more than just plain gold and copper.
  2. Coloring Books and Patterns. These have been popular lately and I don’t see them stopping anytime soon. Coloring books for adults are on the rise and I think we will start seeing more things with a coloring theme, such as colorable fabric.
  3. Craft Kits
  4. Textured Materials. Such as rope, yarn, basketry, etc.
  5. More Technology Inspired Crafts. With 3D printers getting cheaper every day I think we’ll be seeing more crafters having tools such as 3D printers, electronic die cutting machines, etc, to use in their crafting.

Do you have any predictions for 2016 Crafting Trends? Colors you think will be hot?

I think we need to continue with the trend of making handmade crafts especially recycled/upcycled items and get away from expensive gadgetries use to make crafts. Most are quite expensive to buy and to use and a lot end up being short term fads.

I believe that just like you mentioned, about 3d printers, the affordable 3d doodler will change the world of crafters! Thanks for writing this post, it really helps 🙂
