Interview with Anna Joyce, Author of Stamp Stencil Paint + GIVEAWAY

October 17, 2015 by Katie Smith 70 Comments

stampstencilpaint

I want to introduce you all to the talented Anna Joyce. Anna is an indie artist and textile artist and recently just published her book “Stamp Stencil Paint“. Today I’m lucky enough to have her here answering a few interview questions and I have a copy of the book to giveaway to one of you! Let’s get to know Anna and then you can enter! It may be your lucky day!

stencil

First, tell us a little bit about yourself? I am an artist, designer, author and mother of two from Portland, OR. I make my art and run my business from a tiny studio in the heart of the city.

Have you always loved printmaking? Some of my very first memories are of being in my mother’s printmaking studio and watching her work. So, yes! You could say that I have always loved printmaking. When I attended art school the printmaking studio was somewhere I felt very comfortable, so I started taking classes in the department and developed my own printing style and practice.

What does the term “Indie” mean to you? To me being “indie” means keeping my production local. I love knowing the people that I work with and supporting the vibrant maker community here in Portland by producing and sourcing my products locally.

What’s your favorite project in your new book? Picking a favorite project from the book is like picking my favorite child, each one has a very special place in my heart! I do really love the Geometric Throw Pillows project. The pattern is so simple to print, but these pillows deliver a huge punch of color and pattern to any room.

Do you have any tips in getting started I think that stamping is a fantastic way to get started! The STAMP chapter in my book will explain everything that you need to hand carve and print your own stamps, but buying commercially made rubber stamps and pads is a great place to start. After a quick and inexpensive trip to the craft store you will have everything you need to start printing by hand. Once you see how easy it is create patterns by hand using stamps I am sure you will be inspired to try stenciling and painted as well.

Stamp Stencil Play is a beautiful book, full of fabulous tutorials and inspiration. I’m excited to try out some of the stamping ideas!

Want your own copy of this AMAZING book? Get it on Abrams Books

If you want to enter to win, leave a comment with your name and email. Giveaway ends Saturday, October 24th 2015.
