The Brisbane Craft and Quilt Fair

For those of you in Australia this sounds like a really amazing Indie Craft Festival to go to!

This year’s Brisbane Craft & Quilt Fair, October 7-11 at Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre will celebrate its 21st birthday featuring the latest trends including adult colouring-in, textile and wearable art, embroidery, knitting, paper craft, vintage fashion and a stunning array of quilts! Visitors will experience the oft-touted therapeutic and mood-boosting benefits of the handmade world while exploring the impressive displays, workshops and craft products on offer at Australia’s most popular craft event.

This year’s quilt exhibition is second to none, with the best from two highly anticipated national quilt challenges, ‘True Blue’ and the ‘Lest We Forget Quilt Challenge – 100 years, 100 quilts’, plus a stunning display of local works presented by members of Queensland Quilters Inc.

Also on display will be 100 captivating and poignant quilts capturing one of Australia’s most defining times, showcased together as a 7.25 metre mosaic in the inspiring ‘Lest We Forget – 100 Years, 100 Quilts’ exhibit which includes works by15 Queensland artists.

Wearable art is another “must-see” draw card at this year’s fair, with an ‘Art U Wear’ exhibition based on the theme, ‘Iconic Australia’. Paying homage to annual holidays at Australia’s beautiful beaches, Brisbane’s Amber McIntosh won third place with her ‘The Aussie Beach’ dress featuring a sea-blue tulle skirt, people frolicking on fine white sands for the bodice and a wide brimmed hat representing the sun. The winning entry, Surfing Kangaroo, was created using a ground-breaking technique of interlocking textile boxes to create a pixel art and modifiable design.

With colouring-in emerging as the latest stress-quashing pastime for adults, 27 year old award winning Colour Artist from Ferny Hills, Alyce Keegan is leading the charge. Visitors will be able to get creative with colour and learn the fundamentals of colouring with Alyce’s demonstrations where she will highlight the skills of colour blending and teach crafters about light source to achieve the best from a colouring-in project.

For those wanting to stock up on all the latest craft supplies, tools and gadgets, the Fair will be bursting at the seams with specialty and online retailers come to life from all over Australia.

Show admission tickets can be bought on the day or online. To learn more and book a ticket online in advance and save, please visit www.craftevents.com.au.
