There’s a chance I’m the last person on the planet who hasn’t seen the amazing works of art by Motoi Yamamoto, but just in case I’m not, I have to share the works of the Japanese artist who creates breathtakingly detailed images out of salt. Inspired by personal tragedy and the connections between life, death, memory, and salt, the pieces are striking, huge, and impermanent, with the salt returning to the sea after the exhibition is finished. For those of us lucky enough to live in the Pacific Northwest, the Making Mends show at the Bellevue Arts Museum in Bellevue, WA features his art among others whose art speaks to healing and runs through May 27.
