Wing earrings

October 5, 2009 by Minnie 3 Comments

wings-cicadaCicadas are horrible creatures, once, one flew up and hit me in the face and it was supremely horrible and I am emotionally scarred for life. It hit my face with a big wet THUNK. EW!

But their wings are certainly pretty and sometimes it’s nice to hear cicadas chirping at night while you are all curled up and cozy with some popcorn and hot chocolate but then you have to get up to see the baby raccoons getting into the garbage because they are so cute and you stand huddled in your bathrobe looking up at the moon for a few minutes.

These cicada wing earrings made by Studio Swoon on Etsy are pretty too.

Worse than cicadas are “cicada killers”, or giant mutant wasps I as call them. They are huge and intimidating, the stinger is probably one inch long. I never saw such a thing until we moved into our current home.

    Hi,

I’m Lilli from Studio Swoon (my mum Simona is the gold & silversmith). Totally confused – where did you get the photo of the cicada wing earrings from? I recognise mum’s Japanese paper that it’s photographed on.. sorry, just trying to follow up on intellectual property stuff and want to know.

Appreciate the shoutout to Studio Swoon though!

    Hi Lilli,

Sorry. That post was written by the former indie crafts editor and I have no idea where she got the picture. I’m assuming by the link to etsy that it likely came from the Etsy shop? But that would be my only guess.

    Good luck.

    Rosie
