Modern Seamster Issue 101 FREE – A new sewing, style and culture magazine

March 13, 2009 by Minnie 1 Comment

seamster magazine sewing craft crafting inspirationI keep wondering how to label myself as a crafter. Crafter? Sewist, sewer (no), seamstress, MOM, designer…

Labels are important, having a one word label for yourself can give people a wealth of information about you, when you’re meeting new people you don’t have time for an elevator pitch. You have to answer the question, “What do you do” and answer with, “I’m a ….”. I’ve been struggling with this since I quit my job and have been staying home with my son. Not only do I care for another person all day but I read, sew, do web design, coding, drawing, dreaming, scheming and everything in between. People ask me what I do and my mouth hangs open like a jerk and then I say something like, “I was a web developer but now I stay home with my kid” and then I blush and dash into the nearest bathroom to vomit (really, there is nothing like suddenly being a parent to screw with your identity).

My point is that I like the term seamster. Either I say, “I’m a seamster” and people say, “oh? What’s that?” and then I can talk about sewing and crafting OR they think I said “scenester” and walk away thinking I’m an ass.

Either way Modern Seamster looks like a great new mag hopefully filling the void that the departing craft and Domino mags has left in my life. You can down load Issue 101 here (just click on the picture of the mag cover). I’m not sure if you will always be able to download it for free. I, for one, am willing and happy to pay 20 bucks a year for a print version if I can. I like a print mag that I can squirrel away in my ever increasing stash of inspiration. Which, btw, is what this magazine is all about!

Is the Seamster a magazine that can be purchased or is it strictly online. I would love to have a hard copy in my hands at any given time of the day or night. Please tell me if I can subscribe to a have a physical magazine delivered to me.
