Ever think that your crafting talents could help you win money? If you craft to create something that gives back to the community, you can win up to $15,000 through the Bernzomatic Find Your Fire Community Grants program.

Bernzomatic is the industry leader in handheld torches. Think soldering irons and torches for jewelry making, glass work, DIY projects, sculptures and so much more. If you have a project idea that gives back to the community in some way – examples include creating an art project for the hometown library, hosting crafting educational classes at a local community college, or knitting blankets or quilts to be donated to a shelter– you can enter your idea online. The program will give away a total of $38,000 to community minded maker projects. And as many of you know – the maker movement is upon us. In fact, there are 135 million adults in the U.S. who consider themselves makers (Atmel Technologies) so there’s sure to be some inspiring submissions. Enter to be one of them!

Here’s how the contest works:

Simply submit your idea by visiting FindYourFireGrants.com before October 31 for a chance to win a grant, as well as torches from Bernzomatic to help bring your project to life. Each project submitted must benefit the community and use a torch in some way. The top ten finalists will be announced and public voting will begin on December 1.

What’s more, the prizes are pretty amazing. Not only is first prize $15,000, but it also includes a visit/ project help from DIY TV expert Nicole Curtis, who is helping launch the program.

Check out this awesome video to learn more.

  • 1st place: $15,000 grant and a consultation and working day with Nicole
  • 2nd place: $7,500 grant
  • 3rd place: $5,000 grant
  • Runners-up (7): Each receiving a $1,500 grant

Winners will be announced mid-January 2017, and be sure to check back Dec. 1 to see if you are a finalist!

Have any maker-inspired crafting projects that fit the build? Submit them today to MAKE a difference, just by visiting FindYourFireGrants.com
