If you have an old lampshade that no longer matches your decor, don’t throw it out just yet. With a little bit of creativity, you can transform the lampshade frame into a new piece of decor that fits your style. The first step in upcycling an old lampshade is to remove the fabric from the frame.

Here are the steps to remove the fabric from an old lampshade:

Turn the lampshade upside down and locate the metal or plastic clips that hold the fabric in place. Use a pair of pliers to gently bend the clips outwards and away from the frame.

Slowly pull the fabric away from the frame. Be careful not to tear the fabric, as you will need it as a template for your new lampshade cover.

Once you have removed the fabric, carefully remove any remaining glue or adhesive from the frame using a scraper or sandpaper. You want to create a smooth and clean surface for your new fabric to adhere to.

Lay the old fabric flat on a large sheet of paper and trace around it with a pencil. Cut out the template and use it to cut a new piece of fabric that matches your desired color or pattern.

Apply a thin layer of fabric glue to the back of the new fabric and carefully wrap it around the frame, starting at the top and working your way down. Smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles as you go along.

When you reach the bottom of the frame, fold the excess fabric over the edge and use fabric glue to secure it in place.

Allow the glue to dry completely before attaching the lampshade to the lamp.

With these simple steps, you can remove the old fabric from an outdated lampshade and create a new, custom cover that fits your decor style. Upcycling is a great way to reduce waste and breathe new life into old items, and this project is a perfect example of how a little creativity can go a long way.
