Book Review + Giveaway: Beaded Bracelets

August 26, 2014 by Katie Smith 60 Comments

Today I am reviewing the book Beaded Bracelets by Claudine McCormack Jalajas. Here’s a quick blurb about the book-

Beaded Bracelets (Running Press; August 2014; $18.00 US / $21.00 CAN) is a jewelry crafter’s guide to 25 original beaded bracelet designs that are contemporary, beautiful, and wear comfortably. Fully illustrated with both technical diagrams and photos, the book focuses on 4 main stitches— peyote, crossweave, right angle weave, and herringbone techniques —which can be applied to companion pieces of bead-weave jewelry, and is sure to appeal to both beginners and expert crafters.

The Author, Claudine Jalajas is a blogger and beadwork expert, with over twenty years of experience, and who shares her passion for the craft of beading by teaching jewelry-making classes. She currently sells her jewelry, patterns, and bead kits on ETSY, Craftsy and at various artisan shows. Claudine lives in Suffolk County, Long Island. You can read her blog here.

I’m a beginner beader, and at first glance a lot of the bracelets in this book look pretty complicated. After reading through the book though, Claudine has well written instructions and super helpful illustrations and patterns that even a beginner like me can understand!

In the beginning of the book you have an introduction, and after that Claudine gives a list of what tools and materials are required for making these bracelets as well as where to purchase, what brands to use and other special notes.

I like that there is a section in the front of the book with photos of the 25 different bracelets and where to find them in the book. Super easy!

Overall, the bracelets in this book are gorgeous and I think with a bit of practice, anyone could do them!

My grandmother taught me jewelry making 45 years ago. I love it and am learning beading among other things. I have been teaching my granddaughter jewelry making also. What a great legacy my grandmother left me for future generations. Would love to learn more to pass along to my granddaughter and hopefully to her children and so on. Thanks for the contest opportunity.

I want to win because I’ve just begun to make jewelry. Most of the designs I’ve seen from other books haven’t appealed to me but that bracelet is beautiful!!
