Susie Ghahremani the painter, crafter and indie genius behind boygirlparty.com has a solo art show at Giant Robot, launching with a reception August 16 and running through September 17….
THE WILD LIFE, the artist’s fifth solo show, will feature an extensive collection of over 100 never-before-seen miniature paintings surrounded by a hand-crafted aerial installation. The three-dimensional aspect of the gallery installation will allow visitors to physically experience the world she creates in her paintings for the first time.
In this show, the subjects of Ghahremani’s animal world take on human qualities, finding visible comfort in the homes they have built. The “home life” of a variety of species will be depicted in the collection, including a wide range of dogs, birds and her renowned owls. The theme of this exhibit is heavily inspired by Ghahremani’s personal experience volunteering as a wildlife rehabilitator in San Diego, CA.
The exhibition is largely composed of gouache paintings on wood tile and wood blocks. As ever, her work reflects her signature craft-inspired sensibility with dotted lines that mimic stitching and backgrounds that evoke textiles and quilting.
Susie says she is also working on a 3-D handcrafted gallery installation to make it a special show to experience in person. There’s also going to be a live haiku contest at the opening with prizes going to the three best art-inspired haikus of the night! If you’re in the LA Area or you’re up for a road trip, go check out Suzie’s work. I have seen her paintings in person and it’s a treat not to be missed!
