I came across the indie crafter Yarn Nerd a while ago and had to post about his shop! Yarn Nerd is the brain child of Adam, an Electrical Engineer who likes to dabble around with needles, yarn and some powdered dye his spare time. What is so impressive is that he gets so much tonal variety and colors from his precise dyeing method. From Adam’s own words “Through science! I dye all of my yarns with only 4 primary colors, to allow me to keep my costs down and provide a wide and dramatic range of colors. The process of mixing colors can be somewhat unpredictable at times, but this is where my engineering side kicks in. When I dye yarn I work in a very predictable and controlled manner, with lots of documentation. This process allows me to repeat a colorway easily, avoiding “how’d that happen?“ skeins. Granted, sometimes things can go awry, and often result in beautiful new colors that I’d never imagined. I’m proud to offer those funky creations to you as well, since you can’t be all left brain all the time. But for the most part, I’ve got dyeing down to science.“
You can find his personal blog, along with tales of his knitting and dyeing exploits over at adamknits.com or head over to his shop to buy some yummy yarn!
