This is a zine within a zine with some extra bits! ‘Make your own…Borrowers Zine’ has 20 A5 (half-sized) pages, plus a micro-zine & rescued page inserts (see below), a magnifying lens, an embroidery chart, not to mention a pair of miniature knitting needles modelled on Homily’s own! There are illustrations throughout, borrowed from the many different editions of ‘The Borrowers’ that have been published, over the years.

Based on the premise that Borrowers do, in fact, exist (there is yet to be a satisfactory alternative suggestion proposed for the consistent disappearance of small, everyday items), this zine traces the history of Borrowers from Lilliputian times onward in a comprehensive chronology. It also examines their representation in the literature of Mary Norton & others, and consideration is given to the most likely habitats for contemporary Borrowers.

So the free pattern downloading started yesterday and ends on August 25th 2009.

This archive is by no means perfect. There are some broken images and finding sewing instructions to go with your pattern pieces appears to be rare. BUT STILL. It’s awesome and having the shape of the pattern pieces is one step in the right direction.

Underdog Ink is owned and operated by Lisa Solomon, a Bay Area artist and crafter. After looking through some of her links it turns out she is the artist behind the most recent Mix Tape, a great craft zine, cover which I have been particularly admiring ever since I received it in the mail a few weeks ago.

First off BUST Magazine (The magazine for women with something to get off their chests.) is a great mag and you should go subscribe now. The latest issue has a good article with Diablo Cody of Pussy Ranch and Juno fame.
BUST puts on the Holiday Craftacular twice a year as well.

Just yesterday I as going through my tights draw(s)! and realizing that I have an absurd amount of tights some dating back circa 1992. WTH? I’m ditching most of them and keeping some to dye and some to embroider. It’s a good idea! Fall and tights season is coming up fast!

Back in the day I remember being so so happy when I found some colored sticker paper that I could run through the copiers at Kinko’s to make stickers that said “F**K WORK” (except with out the astrics) or “OBEY your Television”. There was no internet, well, there was…but it didn’t offer jack as far as finding printers for stickers at affordable prices.

I’ve used two vendors – The Sticker Guy and Sticker Junkie an both are reasonably priced, timely and good quality.

Sticker Junkie actually ends up being more expensive but they have a handy dandy little flash sticker builder on their site – so if you just need text and can use one of their stock images then you may want to just go with them.

If you’re comfortable in Adobe Illustrator and want a fancier, cheaper sticker with more size and color options than Sticker Guy might be for you.

Now, I would love to hear about other vendors people have used.

The internet provides me with these possibilities:
Sticker Giant – This looks okay but frankly theiur site sucks and is kind of confusing.

Zazzle – I’ve used zazzle for business cards and I like them. They’re FAST.

123 Stickers – Could be okay but really? Email for prices? No, I crave instant gratification and do not want to have to actually have contact with another human being.

Sticker Robot – They look good! They’ll do a hole punch and a kiss cut (awesome if you’re using them for tags), plus they’ll die cut and give you an instant quote.

The project, 52 Acts, is the creative component of my Doctor of Creative Arts program. The program is designed to answer the question: ‘how can cyberfeminism practice and Web 2.0 applications be used to recode gendered representations of women on the Internet?’

Her feminist cookies are good but I like the skirt and dress tutorials she has up on Instructables the best. She came up with tutorials for a dress and skirt that look good on a variety of body shapes AND are comfortable no matter how your body may be changing.

How to make a bias cut skirt with wide stretch waistband

This tutorial will show how to make a bias cut a-line style skirt, with a wide stretch waistband, using fabric and a recycled t-shirt. This is how I make all my skirts. They look good, feel really comfortable, and are also really great for pregnancy, breast feeding and general monthly body changes as the stretch waistband is very accommodating and the bias cut molds really well around curves. The a-line shape is flattering to most body types and suitable for all sizes.

How to make a goddess scarf/wrap dress

This is an easy way to make a dress from either two large scarves or two equal sized pieces of fabric. I have been seeing dresses of this style around the place and every time I see one I think “hey, that must just be two pieces of fabric sewn together… but how?…”

The style is so easy and recognizable.. if that makes sense. It makes me feel like a kid and reminds me of the maps I drew when I was little and so they are super comforting. I think these would be a great way to decorate a kids room.

I came across this monster illustration by the small cat club on flickr. Do not look at it too closely or it might steal your head.

The small cat club has an etsy store in which resides many things that I would like to own. Such as the happy mix tape pillow and the animal mermaids stationary set.

16Bit has some ear flap knit hats with the space invaders guys on there. This red one is my fav.

The Girl Gamer has some cute space invaders key chains in her etsy shop PixelatedCreations.

There’s the space invaders quilt that CraftGossip reported on recently.

And Pardalote’s etsy shop is crammed with awesome beaded Space Invaders beaded jewelry. That space invaders necklace is teh awesome!

I have to admit that sometime in teh early 90’s I was also hit with a space invaders nostalgia and I have a t-shirt from that time with Space Invaders all over it. I think I am inspired to go cut it up and make it into a baby blanket (CPSIA be damned!).
