OMG. They have a duct tape prom outfit contest every year! They announce the winners of this year on July 9th but you can go look at all the entries and they are FANTASTIC! The girl pictured above knit her dress out of hand spun duct tape ‘yarn’. I bow down to her.

Challenge themes are announced three weeks in advance. Every Sunday evening registration for the week’s challenge ends and the voting begins in the Craftness.com community. Winners are announced after seven days, and are showcased on the Craftness.com homepage.

Crafters of all stripes are welcome to join in the kick-off challenge, from knitters and needlecrafters to metalworkers and glassblowers.

The inaugural challenge is for projects inspired by children’s books. Deadline to register is October 12.

This Thursday is a new craft challenge blog with a difference. Its open to all forms of craft and art. They start the challenges every week. Bazaar Bizarre San Francisco and Austin Are Now Accepting Applications

This Bazaar Bizarre event is happening as a part of Make Magazine and Craft Zine Maker Faire Austin 2008. The entire event takes place at the Travis County Event Center and Fairgrounds drew over 20,000 attendees. Please see http://makerfaire.com/ for more program information

Bazaar Bizarre San Francisco is on Sunday November 30th 2008 10am – 5pm

Your project can be made out of whatever you want. The only requirement is that:
(a) it actually works (via electricity, candles, battery-operated candles, etc).
(b) that it be awesomely creative, of course!

You can get ambitious and create your lighting fixture totally from scratch. Or you can totally revamp an existing light fixture.
Rules:
Post your craft during the period of May 1 – May 5 2008. No sooner. No later. On May 1 there will be a special folder created for entries. Voting will happen from May 6 – May 12 2008. Each participant can enter ONE project. (Although your entry can have multiple components to it.)

Originality:
It’s probably impossible to know whether your project is 100% original and has never been posted on Craftster or made by anyone else in the past. But if your project was definitely inspired by something you’ve seen before, then just give credit to that project.

Prizes:
A signed copy of the new craft book aptly named The Big-Ass Book of Crafts by Mark Montano. And Mark is also throwing in some surprise crafty goodies provided by Fiskars!

The letter inspired the Make It Mine staff to wonder, “What wild, weird, or simply unpurselike thing have our readers turned into a purse?” So, on the back page of the spring issue, you’ll find the first official Make It Mine reader challenge. The idea is simple: Transform something (anything) into a fabulous purse. Readers can submit their own creations and vote for their favorite designs. I love dollar stores! You never know what craziness you’re going to find! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to make something fabulous and hopefully totally unexpected out of items you buy at a dollar store that cost a total $10 or less. (Last time it was $5 but we’ll account for a lil inflation!)

You can also use traditional craft supplies glue, thread, etc but the main focal point of the project should be what you buy at the dollar store.
