I’m willing to bet most crafters and artists have a certain amount of pins and buttons in their stashes. As far as supplies go, those are pretty basic. But there’s nothing basic about the way artist Ran Hwang uses buttons and pins to create gorgeous, giant art installations. Her subjects range from birds and flowers to architecture and design, but the method and the beauty are throughout. Each piece is composed of thousands upon thousands of pins, most holding buttons or thread, that are carefully placed onto the design surface. The Kashya Hildebrand website has an in depth article on the importance of the recontextualizing everyday objects and the meaning that it infuses into Hwang’s works. You can also see lots more photos of this installation, known as the Temple Chandelier, and many more. Click here to learn more.
